The Chinese team, ViCi Gaming has secured its participation in IEM Katowice 2020. They took the first place in the qualifier for Asia, which was running from 7 to 9 January.

Eight squads participated in the closing part of the Asian qualification. ViCi, TYLOO, AUGUST, and ALPHA Red were directly invited by the organizers, while the other spots were given out to the winners of open qualifiers: OneThree.TSG, Rising-Stars, Mazaalai, and Bren Esports.
On the way to the final of this qualifying tournament, ViCi Gaming outclassed all their opposition within the upper bracket, where they beat ALPHA Red, AUGUST, and Bren Esports. Later, TYLOO managed to become the second finalist, as they recovered from their loss in the lower bracket.
The last match for a ticket to the Katowice world championship ran in the Best of 5 format. There, TYLOO didn’t manage to win a single map, losing the game 0-3. While having a 1-0 advantage due to coming from the upper bracket, ViCi won over their opponent on Mirage (16-12) and Overpass (16-7), with Yi JamYoung Yang delivering an MVP performance. He averaged a 1.62 rating, scoring 54 kills (54-28 K-D).
As a result, ViCi Gaming are the eleventh confirmed participant for IEM Katowice 2020. The previous ten teams that guaranteed their attendance received invitations; some of them are NAVI, Virtus.pro, and Team Liquid. The last five spots in the team list will be filled by the winners of the other qualifications that are taking place in Europe, North America, and Oceania.
The upcoming Intel Extreme Masters tournament is scheduled for February 25 - March 1. The event’s prize fund amounts to $500,000. The Danish five of Astralis is the reigning IEM champion. They conquered the championship title of the Beijing competition without dropping a map.
