Owen "smooya" Butterfield has joined the CSGO lineup of Chaos Esports Club, replacing Gage "Infinite" Green. The announcement of his addition to the team was made on Twitter.
BIG was the previous team of smooya, and there, the British sniper spent more than one year and a half of his career. While representing the German organization, Owen achieved his best results so far as he finished second at ESL One Cologne 2018 and earned the Legend status at the FACEIT Major in London.
His departure from the German squad was announced on January 1. Eventually, he got replaced by Florian "syrsoN" Rische, who earlier played for Sprout. Aside from syrsoN, BIG also signed his teammate, Nils "k1to" Gruhne.
In the Chaos roster, smooya filled the gap left by Infinite, who quit the squad on mutual agreement. As it was revealed in his post on Twitter, he asked to bench him by his own decision. Shortly after, the American team participated in the qualifier for IEM Katowice 2020 with their coach, Alan "Shakezullah" Hardeman. There, they took the 5-6th place following the losses against MIBR and Complexity.
The new CSGO lineup of Chaos Esports Club:
- Joshua "steel" Nissan
- Cameron "cam" Kern
- Ben "ben1337" Smith
- Maxim "wippie" Shepelev

As of now, Chaos EC are preparing for participation in two tournaments. They will take part in WINNERS League - S3: North America and kick off their performance in Season 33 of the ESEA MDL league, the start of which is scheduled for January 13.
The signing of smooya may help the team in solidifying its positions on the North-American CSGO scene. Right now, they are occupying the 56th spot of HLTV’s World Ranking. Not a long time ago, the squad led by steel managed to qualify for the Global Finals of WESG 2019.
