Schedule and team draw for DreamHack Open Leipzig 2020 announced

A full schedule of matches for DreamHack Open Leipzig 2020 has been revealed by the organizers, along with team draw for the tournament’s group stage.

The upcoming event in Germany will be running from 24 to 26 January, featuring eight squads. Four of them received direct invitations, and these are BIG, Renegades, Virtus.pro, and the reigning DH Open champions, North.

The second part of the participant list consists of the teams that made it through the regional qualifiers. MAD Lions and Heroic won the qualification for Europe, while Cloud9 came out on top in the one that was hosted for North America. The last spot was acquired by Sprout, who recently signed Tomáš "oskar" Šťastný and Paweł "dycha" Dycha. They earned it due to taking first place at ESL Meisterschaft Winter.

According to the schedule and final draw, in the very first match of DH Leipzig, Virtus.pro will take on BIG. After that, North will fight against Sprout, while Cloud9 will put Renegades to the test. The cycle of opening games will be finished by the Danish derby, Heroic against MAD Lions.

January 25:

  • 11:00 — Elimination Match | Group A
  • 14:00 — Elimination Match | Group B
  • 17:00 — Decider Match | Group A
  • 20:00 — Decider Match | Group B

January 26:

  • 11:00 — Semifinal #1
  • 14:00 — Semifinal #1
  • 18:00 — Grand-final

The Leipzig event is set to begin with a GSL group stage. When it’s done, four strongest teams move on to the Playoffs, where they compete in the bracket of Single Elimination. There, the final series is held in the Best of 3 format. 

DreamHack Open Leipzig 2020 offers a $100,000 prize pool, one half of which ($50,000) is slated to be given to the eventual champion, who will also earn a spot at DreamHack Masters Jönköping 2020.
