From 17 to 22 of December, Epic Esports Events will be organizing its fourth CSGO tournament, EPICENTER 2019. There, eight teams from Europe, CIS, America, and China are set to compete for a $500,000 prize pool. The event will be held in Crocus Expo Hall (Moscow, Russia).
Half of the championship’s participants are the Top 10 teams, according to the HLTV Global Rankings. These are Evil Geniuses, mousesports, Team Vitality, and NAVI. EG are the highest-ranked squad out there as they are considered to be the third-strongest lineup in the world. The fifth position is occupied by mouz, who recently won cs_summit 5. The eighth and ninth places are being held by Vitality and Natus Vincere, respectively. Each of the aforementioned rosters has been directly invited by the organizers.
One more invitation was sent to the Kazakhstani roster of Virtus.pro that previously represented the AVANGAR organization. The tournament in Moscow will be their first LAN under the banner of the Russian esports club. All other spots were handed out in the regional qualifiers. The Russians of forZe prevailed in the CIS qualifier, whilst the Danes of Heroic outclassed their opposition in the EU division. In China, it was EHOME who seized the first place in the qualifier as they took down TYLOO in the final.
List of participants and group stage draw
The tournament will kick with a group stage that is set to run by the rules of the GSL system. Eight teams will be equally split into two groups; six of them advance to the Playoffs. In the groups, winners qualify for the semifinals, while runners-up and third-place teams move on to the quarterfinals. Two participants that will end up on the last spots of the standings will be eliminated from the competition and take home $10,000.
Every single match at EPICENTER 2019 will be played in the Best of 3 format. The last phase of the event is scheduled for December 21-22. There, remaining participants will battle it out within a single-elimination bracket, where the eventual winner receives $250,000 of prize money.
