Names of the first two winners in the European qualifier for IEM Katowice 2020 have been determined - G2 Esports and FaZe Clan. They delivered the best level of play in the upper bracket.
G2 Esports will travel to Poland to attend

On the way to a ticket to Katowice, G2 scored two victories with a 2-1 result. First, the European squad won over the Poles of x-kom AGO: 16-12 Mirage, 14-16 Vertigo, and 16-10 Dust2. Second, they beat the Danish five of MAD Lions. They managed to recover from losing the first map, Train in the overtime (20-22) by prevailing on Dust 2 and Nuke (16-14 and 16-13, respectively).
FaZe Clan started their showing with a match against ARCY, in which they took down the Polish team 2-0: 16-14 Nuke, 16-12 Dust2. After that, the lineup led by Nikola "NiKo" Kovač faced off against ENCE Esports. In the clash for a spot at IEM, the Finns were able to win only one map, 1-2: 10-16 Mirage, 16-12 Dust2, 12-16 Nuke.
Thus, G2 and FaZe joined the list of participants for IEM Katowice 2020. Aside from them, fourteen teams will also take part in this championship. Twelve of them are already known. These are both invited squads (NAVI, Virtus.pro, Liquid) and winners of other regional qualifications (Cloud9, ViCi Gaming).
One more spot is slated to be given away to the third winner of the EU qualifier. It will be played off between ENCE, AGO, MAD Lions, and Illuminar. The final slot was allocated to the qualification in Oceania, where the new Renegades roster will be in action.
The next CSGO tournament of the Intel Extreme Masters cycle will be held on February 25 - March 1. It will offer a prize pool of $500,000. The Danes of Astralis are the reining champions of IEM, as they seized the first place at the competition in Beijing, which ran in October 2019.
