The American team of Cloud9 has acquired the last spot at DreamHack Open Leipzig 2020 in CSGO, taking first place in the qualifier for North America. Prior to that, participation in the tournament was secured by MAD Lions and Heroic.
The NA qualification ran on January 12-13. There, Cloud9 played three different matches without losing a single map, picking up 2-0 victories over Triumph, Complexity, and eUnited. Aran "Sonic" Groesbeek turned out to be their best performer, as he averaged a 1.15 rating on HLTV.org after 6 maps.
Before that, the European qualifier took place, and there, the victory was gained by two Danish teams, MAD Lions and Heroic. The first squad took down SKADE and Defusekids, whilst the second one won over Team Secret and Gambit Youngsters. Both lineups finished their showing with 4W-1L map statistics. MAD Lions’ most valuable player was Frederik "acoR" Gyldstrand (1.27), and for Heroic it was Casper "cadiaN" Møller, who scored the highest KDR (1.26).
It’s worth noting that a few days earlier Cloud9 and MAD Lions grabbed tickets to IEM Katowice 2020, making it through the regional qualifiers, too. There, C9 managed to overcome Riot Squad, INTZ, Complexity, and MIBR, whilst MAD Lions prevailed over Heroic, Illuminar Gaming, and ENCE.
DreamHack Open Leipzig 2020 is set to be held on January 24-26 at Leipziger Messe, featuring a prize pool of $100,000. Apart from Cloud9, Heroic, and MAD Lions, five more teams will take part in this event. These are BIG, North, Virtus.pro, Renegades, and Sprout. The winner of this competition will earn a highly-coveted slot at DreamHack Masters Jönköping 2020.
